Browse Basin Regional Geology

The Browse Basin is a Paleozoic to Cenozoic extensional basin situated on Australia’s North West Shelf. The basin is being actively explored, and several large gas accumulations are currently under development for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and condensate production. Petroleum reserves are estimated at 1.79 MMbbl (0.29 GL) of crude oil, 1084.81 MMbbl (172.47 GL) of condensate, 324.08 MMbbl (51.53 GL) of LPG and 32.16 Tcf (910.77 Bcm) of gas (Geoscience Australia, 2012).
